Reducing Environmental Impact
At UNIMATEC Co., Ltd., in order to fulfill our corporate social responsibility and help build a better future, we are carrying out environmental conservation activities company-wide with efforts toward conserving energy and achieving carbon neutrality.
Some of our representative initiatives are introduced below.
Environmental Conservation through the Introduction of Energy-Efficient Refrigeration Units
We are systematically replacing the refrigeration units used at our facilities with models that offer higher energy efficiency. Once the upgrades are completed, we expect to reduce CO2 emissions by about 125 metric tons annually compared with FY2018 levels. In addition, the new models operate more quietly, contributing not only to reduced environmental impact but also to improvements in the working environment.
CO2 Emissions Reduction through the Introduction of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and High-Efficiency Boilers
As part of our efforts to achieve carbon neutrality, we are planning to introduce LNG and high-efficiency boilers. Operation of LNG-fueled boilers will begin in 2026. With the introduction of LNG, the steam boilers currently fueled by heavy oil will be gradually replaced, with all seven boilers scheduled to complete the fuel transition by 2027.
The newly installed steam boilers feature high-efficiency designs that enable reduced fuel consumption. Compared with FY2024 performance, we expect an annual fuel reduction equivalent to 134.87 kL of crude oil. In addition, by combining the CO2 emissions reductions achieved through fuel conversion to LNG with the additional fuel reduction from improved boiler efficiency, we anticipate reducing CO2 emissions by more than 2,000 metric tons per year (equivalent to about 13% of total plant emissions).
Going forward, we will continue to make all efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by promoting fuel conversion for other fossil fuel-powered equipment at our plants.
